Betty finally shows her true colors, revealing that she was with Stanton the night Martin was shot, an affair caused by her husband's infidelities with Martin.
Brother and sister Gordon and Freda argue over which one really had Martin's affections.
Betty, Freda, and Olwen try to remain poised as Miss Mockridge rambles on after having too much to drink.
Robert pays attention to his brother-in-law Gordon as Gordon talks to Robert's wife and Gordon's sister, Freda.
After hearing how Stanton let his brother Martin take the blame for stealing company money, Robert takes Stanton's drink and asks him to leave.
Stanton and Gordon enjoy a friendly game of chess at the beginning of the get together. By the end, they will find out they were both pawns in other people's lives.
After both of their confessions, Stanton says good-bye to Olwen.
