SWK Dinners

The Social Work students get together twice a year at a professor's house to visit with old friends and make new ones as they socialize with other Social Work majors and minors.

Spring Chili Supper SWK Dinner

The Department of Social Work hosted a chili supper for the students at the home of Professor Lorraina Scholten. This event marked the twenty-fourth year the Social Work department has held an annual chili supper. That's a lot of chili and desserts served up by the faculty and staff for the students majoring in Social Work.

Professor Simpler started this tradition in 1984 in her fifth year as a professor at Belmont. It seemed like a fun way of getting students, faculty and staff together in a setting away from campus. From the beginning the students have enjoyed the hospitality of spending an evening in a professor's home where they eat homemade chili and desserts.

The faculty and staff create different kinds of chili with names to match the ingredients. This years' event featured 'Texas Wannabe Chili' by Dr. Scholten, 'Muy Caliente Vegetarian Chili' by Professor Simpler, and 'Chicken Chili' by Ms. Peach. The dessert table featured homemade apple dumplings, pecan pie, chocolate chess pie, and chocolate raspberry cream cake.

24th Annual Fall Dinner

About 25 students and Social Work Department folks gathered at the Scholten home.  The theme this year was a mexican fiesta with yummy treats provided by the faculty and staff.  We enjoyed great weather, good company, and a fun afternoon.
