Admissions


Belmont University School of Physical Therapy admits an ideal class of 32 students per year, and begins study in August of each year. We do not have an application deadline. We continue to accept and review applications throughout the year until the next class matriculates. However, for full consideration in next year's class, we recommend that you complete your application as early in the school year as possible, typically 12-15 months prior to the August in which you plan to begin PT education.

Application Materials:

Admission Requirements:

Applicants to the professional entry level Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree program must have completed or shown evidence of substantial work toward the following in order to be considered for full admission:

- A completed application form with the $50.00 nonrefundable application fee. 

- Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university (degree in any field) or be in the senior year of undergraduate study. A completed bachelor's degree is required prior to admission, as evidenced by an official college/university transcript.

- Completion of all prerequisites within ten years prior to application. A course description for each prerequisite class from the applicable college/university catalog must be included with the application.

- Minimum overall of both undergraduate and, if applicable, graduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

- Minimum prerequisite grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). The prerequisite course work includes:Admissions Advising

  1. Chemistry: 6-8 hours, two semesters with a lab in each
  2. Physics: 6-8 hours, two semesters with a lab in each
  3. Biology: 6-8 hours, two semesters with a lab in each
  4. Human Anatomy and Physiology: 6-8 hours, two semesters with a lab in each
  5. Statistics: 3 hours
  6. Behavioral Science Courses: 9 hours (includes courses in psychology, sociology, anthropology, and/or ethics)



- Competitive scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within the past five years (School Code is 1058, Physical Therapy Code is 0619).
 
- Demonstration of familiarity with physical therapy in the form of a minimum of 50 hours of observational, volunteer, and/or work experience in physical therapy.
 
- Official transcripts for all college and university course work completed.
 
- Two recommendations from faculty, academic advisors, or employers addressing the applicants ability, interest, and motivation for pursuing study in physical therapy. One letter of recommendation must be from a licensed physical therapist. 
 
- The Physical Therapy Program Admissions Committee will review the application to select the final group of applicants for interview and further review. These applicants will be invited to continue in the admission procedure by participating in the on-site portion of the admission process.



The Physical Therapy Admissions Committee makes decisions regarding the acceptability of applicants for the Physical Therapy Program after receiving and evaluating all pertinent application materials.
