Political Economy major

student At Belmont University, students may choose to major or minor in Political Economy. Students selecting this program will complete classes in American and International Political Economy, carefully chosen courses in Political Science and Economics, and a senior seminar in which they complete an independent research project. Many opportunities to participate in local or national internships also exist. (For example, one of our recent students completed a semester-long experience with the Competitive Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C.)

This major provides our students an exciting academic opportunity. It is especially interesting to anyone looking to combine professional coursework with a strong grounding in the liberal arts. As a BA or BS degree, the program leaves substantial room for combination majors in areas like Journalism or a foreign language. In our increasingly interdependent world, the relationship between national and international politics and economy grows evermore intermingled. Students who understand and prepare for these changes will be far more capable to adjust to the professional and intellectual transformations that occur. A Political Economy major is excellent preparation for a wide variety of professional or graduate opportunities, including law, business, politics, media, and community service.

If you have questions, please contact campus Political Economy coordinator, Dr. Larry Hall, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Political Science.
