Honors programDesigned to allow students to advance as quickly as their individual ability permits, the Honors program seeks students who have potential for superior academic performance and want added challenge and breadth in their studies. Honors students enjoy a creative curriculum, flexibility, and individualized learning options tailored to their degree plans, and they have the opportunity to work with like-minded, equally dedicated peers and faculty members, who also serve as private tutors. Candidates for the Honors program usually earn a score of 1250 or higher on the SAT or 28 or higher on the ACT, exhibit academic excellence in high school and normally graduate in the top 10 percent of their class. They are superior writers as determined by a writing sample, and possess creativity, curiosity, introspection, and perseverance. Admission to the program is highly competitive -- only 36 students are admitted each year. To apply, students must submit an honors essay and letters of reference from previous teachers or counselors. |
