The Pursuit of Scholarship

research facilityThe department of pharmaceutical sciences has secured a contract grant to evaluate the stability of over seventy drugs when extemporaneously compounded into oral liquid dosage forms with a commercially available suspending vehicle. The $157,000 grant extends for two years.

To facilitate this investigation, the university has generously provided support to obtain a state-of-the-art, high-performance liquid chromatograph and attendant supplies. Laboratory space has been secured off-campus in the Cumberland Emerging Technologies Life Science Center.

Since their appointment in December 2007, Belmont pharmacy faculty have submitted seven poster abstracts of collaborative investigations for presentation at international meetings.

clinical simulation labBeginning in November, School of Pharmacy faculty began teaching in cross-discipline, integrated simulation courses with the School of Nursing and the School of Occupational Therapy. In March 2008, the School of Nursing was recognized by Laerdal Medical Corporation, a leading provider of healthcare solutions and products, as a Center of Educational Excellence. The designation is awarded to centers that have consistently demonstrated excellence in educational philosophy and programs for the purpose of "helping save lives".  These collaborations are leading to publications on the scholarship of teaching.
