[ more about Dr. Schallert...

Comprised of diverse and talented players from throughout the United States, the Belmont tuba and euphonium studio successfully integrates high-quality performance within a positive learning environment, producing independent and well-rounded musicians. In addition to the study and performance of solo repertoire, students study etudes, scales and orchestral excerpts. There are numerous performance opportunities for tuba and euphonium students within Belmont's School of Music, including performing with the Belmont University Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Belmont Jazz Ensemble, Athletic Pep Bands, Heavy Metal Band, and Brass Choir.  There are also many smaller groups in which to perform, including brass quintets and instrumentally varied jazz combos. Students are given the opportunity to perform solo and chamber music in brass seminar, a forum that brings all of Belmont's brass majors together and fosters preparation for recitals and other performance situations. Brass seminar students also rehearse weekly as a brass choir and present a recital at the end of each semester. In addition to weekly instruction and frequent performances by Belmont faculty, students attend concerts and master classes given by guest artists on Belmont's beautiful Nashville campus. Besides the many on-campus performances, low brass students may enjoy many off-campus performance opportunities based on their talent and interest. Freelancing activities for students are readily available throughout the Nashville area. In addition to performing at numerous church-related events, students are often invited to be regular members of musical groups and events in the area, or are often called upon to substitute for a regular player in these groups.
