Terry Klefstad


Dr. Terry KlefstadDr. Terry Klefstad is an Assistant Professor of Music in the Belmont University School of Music. Dr. Klefstad teaches courses in the areas of Music History, First Year Seminar and The Musical Experience.

Dr. Klefstad received her Ph.D. in Musicology from University of Texas at Austin, and her Master of Music (Music History and Literature) from Southern Methodist University. She received both a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Bachelor of Arts in English with Writing Emphasis from Millikin University. Before coming to Belmont, Dr. Klefstad taught at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

An active lecturer and musicologist, Dr. Klefstad has lectured for the Austin Civic Orchestra as well as authored informative radio scripts (KMFA -Austin 89.5 and In Performance@UT) and program annotations for the Austin Civic Orchestra and The University of Texas Performing Arts Center. Dr. Klefstad has presented numerous papers and lectures, including: A Soviet Opera in America, The Mass Appeal of Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony, Shostakovich and Cinematography, and Structural Function of the Framework Theme in Bartok's String Quartets. Currently, Dr. Klefstad's publication A Baroque Influence: The Framework Theme in Bartok's Six String Quartets is in press with the International Journal of Musicology and her Heart: Topoi and Samuel Barber's A Hand of Bridge is forthcoming. She holds professional memberships with the following music organizations: American Musicological Society, College Music Society, Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda and Sigma Alpha Iota.
