Kris Elsberry
Dr. Kris Elsberry is Professor of Music at Belmont University. As a member of the Belmont faculty since 1981, she teaches courses in form and analysis, harmony, ear training, counterpoint, theory review, theory pedagogy, analysis techniques, and applied piano. Her administrative experience includes Coordinator of Music Theory, Associate Dean for Academic Studies in the School of Music, and Assistant Director of the Belmont University Teaching Center.
Dr. Elsberry is a founding member of and performer in Belmont Camerata Musicale, a resident faculty chamber music ensemble. A frequent collaborator with faculty artists, she has performed in Germany, Austria, New York, California, and throughout the Midwestern and Southeastern United States. Recently, she and colleague Elisabeth Small, violin, participated in a faculty exchange with the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden and performed in Magdeburg and Dresden, Germany. Dr. Elsberry has studied piano with Elizabeth Buday, Winfried Wolf, and Edward Kilenyi; and chamber music with Menahem Pressler. Her additional performance study includes the Internationalen Sommerakademie at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
A panelist for the Music Teachers National Association National Convention, Dr. Elsberry has been published in American Music Teacher. She has been a guest clinician for the Nashville chapters of Piano Guild and Music Teachers National Association. Recently, she presented at the Tennessee Music Educators Association Conference on the subject of the impact of form and design on performance. Dr. Elsberry is a frequent adjudicator at area piano competitions.
Dr. Elsberry received a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Theory and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Florida State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Shorter College. She is a member of the College Music Society, Pi Kappa Lambda National Honor Society, and Sigma Alpha Iota Fraternity.
