Anthony Belfiglio

Anthony Belfiglio Dr. Belfiglio is an Assistant Professor of Music in the School of Music.  Currently, Dr. Belfiglio teaches applied commercial piano, commercial piano seminar and music theory/harmony.

A scholar and performer, Dr. Belfiglio holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music and Human Learning/Jazz Emphasis from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of Miami, a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy, and Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from Temple University.   Throughout his years of educational studies, Dr. Belfiglio has taught various music courses at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Miami and Temple University as well as kept a private music studio.

As a young musician, Dr. Belfiglio was involved with the Oberlin College Summer Piano Institute.   As his performance abilities matured, Dr. Belfiglio became one of an elite handful of musicians and composers that were selected for an artist residency with Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead in 2001.   This residency consisted of various performances including performances at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.  

Further performances have included concerts with many notable jazz artists.   Selected artists include: Dave Douglas, Branford Marsalis, Kenny Garrett, Jason Marsalis, Ron Westray, Delfeayo Marsalis, Kevin Mahogany, John Riley, John Fedchock, Willie Williams, Steve Turre, John Blake and Eddie Gomez.   To date, Dr. Belfiglio has recorded various projects, including Project Escape by Anthony Belfiglio (Independent, 2006), The Austin Sessions by Kevin Ahart (Independent, 2006) and First Time Only by Anthony Belfiglio (Musician’s Showcase Recordings, 2001).   He has also performed live on Nashville National Public Radio with pianist Bruce Dudley, on Austin National Public Radio with the Pete Rodriquez Quintet and on WFLN Philadelphia with vocalist Elisa Fiorillo.  Click to listen to an excerpt from "One for Jeff" and "Coexist" performed and written by Dr. Belfiglio.
