Megan Reynolds

Megan Reynolds"Coming to Belmont to be a Commercial Music Major, I certainly was not interested in the often-dreaded study of music theory.  I, along with many other students, didn't understand why it was necessary to take theory and ear training classes.  That question did frequently come up during the first couple of semesters, but the day I caught myself using a tool I'd been taught in ear training to learn a rhythm for a pop song, I never questioned it again.

From day one of classes, the professors I had for music theory classes have been both patient and understanding. Because of the smaller classes that Belmont provides, I was never afraid to ask questions about concepts that are more difficult to understand.  Although I knew the teachers I had wanted me to succeed, I appreciate the fact that they were not afraid to challenge me with difficult information to ensure that I will have the knowledge and skills I need to succeed in any facet of music I choose to pursue.  Many of them are involved in the music scene in Nashville and have helped me to apply things I learn in class to the song writing and performing I love.

Music theory, surprisingly, was one of my favorite classes.  I know the experience wouldn't be the same if I weren't here at Belmont with professors who encourage me to look at theory through new eyes and see it as a way of preparing myself to be the best musician possible.
