"I am a junior double-major in Music Education and Performance (Classical Voice). When I first visited Belmont, I was impressed by the beautiful campus in its great location, the friendly faculty and staff, and especially the music classes I observed in the School of Music. The teachers seemed to have an excellent relationship with their students and were so helpful with answering any questions they had. In addition, the teachers knew their students by name, something that sets a small school like Belmont apart from bigger schools across the country.
This personal attention and the nurturing, stimulating learning environment ultimately is what brought me to Belmont. I knew I would be motivated and encouraged in all of my academic and musical pursuits, and a small, private Christian university where teachers knew me by name would prevent me from getting "lost in the pack." Belmont has far surpassed my highest expectations, and has given me an environment in which learning and musical creativity is enhanced and encouraged. Small class sizes allow for more intimate discussions that take learning beyond the textbook and apply it to real life.
I have been so impressed by the music education faculty, which has taken an interest in creating the most well-prepared, well-rounded candidates for the teaching world. I have amassed a wealth of information from their classes and have been given many additional opportunities to explore and expand my own musicianship through private lessons, performance ensembles, vocal seminars, masterclasses, music organizations, and recitals. In addition, I've been able to attend many cultural events on campus that enhance my appreciation and love of the fine arts, as well as my own development as a musician. Since I recently added a second major in performance, I look forward to performing in the operas and taking full advantage of everything this thriving musical community has to offer at Belmont University."Jessica Neal
