The Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Program was established in January of 1997 at Belmont University as a celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Events are held each January as a part of the observance of Dr. King's birthday.

All these events are open to the Belmont Community and the general public. We hope you will participate.

Rev. Fred Gray was the attorney for Rosa parks, Dr. King and the Montgomery Bus Boycotts, and author of Bus Ride to Justice. He also defended the Tuskegee Syphilis Study victims.

Dr. Naomi Tutu is the duaghter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and a human rights advocate. She is co-authoring a book entitled, I Don't Think of You as Black: Honest Conversations on Race and Racism.

Dr. Forrest Harris is President and CEO, American Baptist College in Nashville. He will give the Keynote Address. He is the DIrector of the Kelly Miller Smith Institute on Black Church Studies and Assistant Dean for African American Church Studies at Vanderbilt University Divinity School.
