I am majoring in public relations and religion to prepare myself
for a career as an event planner for a nonprofit or
Christian-affiliated organization.
The new public relations program has really helped me find my niche, which is the reason why I recently added the religion major. The public relations program was created as an applied learning program, which has given me the opportunity to actually work on different activities that are prevalent in many areas of the public relations field.
Stepping outside of the usual academic textbook style atmosphere and acquiring hands-on experience through different activities like writing news releases, creating a sample Web site for the major, and doing a Nashville-wide public interest poll/research project helped me find my place in the career field before having to play hit and miss with internships. The PR classes and opportunities offered through the PR program have made me excited about all the possibilities that are available to me in this job field.
