Thom Storey
Thom chairs the Media Studies Department and has
been on the faculty since 1985. Thom initiated the
original Journalism program a year later. He pioneered the
creation of the New Century Journalism Program, which came
to fruition in 2003.
After graduating from St. Bonaventure University in upstate New York, Thom began his journalistic career as a sports writer and columnist. He then moved on to covering schools, the courts and public affairs. He earned his master's degree from Iowa State University. As a graduate student he advised the university's daily newspaper and worked part time covering sports for the Ames Tribune.
For most of his career at Belmont, Thom has worked professionally as a copy editor and travel editor at Nashville's largest daily newspaper, The Tennessean. He is the recipient of Belmont's Chaney Distinguished Professor Award and was named Journalism Educator of the Year in the Southeast Journalism Conference.
Thom regularly teaches reporting, law and ethics courses in the Media Studies Department.
