About Media Studies
The Department of Media Studies is designed to offer
quality instruction in programs designed for professional media
communicators of the 21st century. We offer majors in the following
programs: Audio and Video Production, Mass Communication,
Journalism and Public Relations.
In 2004 we opened the 7,000-square-foot Media Studies Center. It houses a multi-media instructional computer lab, the award-winning student newspaper, the Belmont Vision, as well as its online counterpart, belmontvisiononline.com, the campus radio station, The Voice, a broadcast studio, editing suites and a student lounge.
Vision:
The Department of Media Studies strives to offer comprehensive professional training, practical career experiences and theoretical understanding of the roles and responsibilities of mass media in the 21st century. Graduates will enter the workplace or continue in graduate studies with the ability to think critically, communicate effectively and develop talents and skills constructively.
Purpose:
The purpose of the Department of Media Studies is to equip
students with the skills necessary to begin careers in a variety of
media-related professions, including: Audio and Video Production,
Broadcasting, Journalism, Media Management, Online Publishing and
Public Relations and Corporate Communications. The faculty will
work to prepare professionals who are competent, ethical and
progressive in their chosen fields of study.
