Michael Janas
I came to Belmont in 2002 as the Studio Manager of RCA Studio B, a
historic recording facility on Music Row which is operated in
partnership by Belmont University and the Country Music Hall of
Fame and Museum. As Studio Manager I facilitate and
coordinate all activities in the building and I serve as Adjunct
Studio Faculty.
My career in the music industry began as a live sound engineer
during my undergraduate studies at the University of
Kansas. After receiving my Bachelor of Music Education I
began to work as a full-time front-of-house engineer and road
manager, touring through the U.S., Canada, and Europe with artists
such as Leon Russell, Jason & The Scorchers, and Webb
Wilder.
In 1990 I changed my career path and took a position as a demo
recording engineer and personal assistant for Paul Kennerley, a
songwriter who has written hits for The Judds, Emmylou Harris, and
Marty Stuart. I also began to work at local nightclubs
such as The Bluebird and The Exit/In as an occasional
front-of-house engineer. In 1991 I accepted a position as
Studio Manager of The Castle Recording Studio in Franklin, TN,
eventually becoming Vice President. During my eleven-year
tenure at The Castle I recorded and produced a wide variety of
artists including Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jason & The Scorchers,
Jonell Mosser, and BR5-49 (who received three Grammy nominations on
work I produced). I also engineered projects for
Warner/Chappell Music, Emmylou Harris, Billy Ray Cyrus, Anna
Wilson, Webb Wilder, and Brad Paisley. In addition to
these I also engineered many independent artist demos and albums.
I am currently pursuing a M.Ed. degree at Belmont University.
