When I applied to Belmont, I never thought I'd end up an English major. I was drawn to Belmont by the Music Business program, but I changed to Psychology before classes even started. After my freshman composition class with Dr. Holt, I knew that English was for me, so I added that to my steadily growing transcript -- a decision I have yet to regret.

I'm convinced that the English major is the best for improving communication, writing, and critical thinking skills, all of which I have seen in myself over the past two years. Not only are the classes challenging, but they are actually enjoyable. Dr. Tully's Critical Reading and Writing class, which I have heard referred to as 'boot camp' for the English major, is by far my favorite class I've taken at Belmont. The English professors are also, in my opinion, some of the best on campus. I never would have guessed that any professor would be willing to invite 20 college students to her home for dinner or take time out of a busy schedule to cook a medieval feast.
