Linda Holt
Dr. Linda E. Holt has been teaching at Belmont since 1990.
She earned a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University
of Louisville, and her dissertation combines her interests in
cultural studies, portfolio assessment, and student-centered
teaching and research practices. An ardent supporter of writing as
reflective practice, she has proudly watched many students begin to
discover their own strengths as writers. For the past two years,
her students have been actively involved in service-learning
projects at a Nashville elementary school, an endeavor that has
proven highly rewarding to students at both institutions. She
teaches a variety of writing classes, including Theories of
Writing, Writing about Cultural Difference, and Creative Writing:
Fiction. Dr. Holt is also the faculty advisor for the Belmont
Literary Journal, an annual publication of student prose, poetry,
song lyrics, and visual art.
In her time away from Belmont, Dr. Holt tries to work in as much
physical activity as possible; she plays golf, walks, swims, and
works in her garden, but her favorite activity is Jazzercise, which
has salvaged her spirit on many occasions and has kept her coming
back to her students relaxed, enthusiastic, and with yet another
writing project.
