Dr. Monahan teaches courses in Organizational Communication, including courses in small group, conflict management, business and professional communication, organizational communication, and leadership. She also teaches Fundamentals of Speech.
Having a deep interest in conflict processes, Dr. Monahan's research focuses on issues of conflict and aggression in the workplace. She is also interested in organizational culture and diversity in the workplace. Dr. Monahan is very active in professional organizations including the National Communication Association, International Communication Association, and International Society for the Scholarship of Learning. She has published and presented articles on workplace aggression, mediation, conflict, effective teaching, and organizational culture.
Dr. Monahan is the coordinator of the Communication Studies internship program.
