Mission Statement:
The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business offers a program that combines experience with real world applications and seeks to achieve its vision by implementing a course of study in the creative processes of the Production and Music Business disciplines within the Entertainment and Music Industries.

Goals:
The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business has the following goals:

  1. To provide a personalized, career-oriented and practical education that emphasizes leadership, innovation, private enterprise and entrepreneurship.
  2. To equip students with the tools to think critically, communicate effectively, accept responsibility, make successful decisions, and prosper in diverse work environments.
  3. To emphasize quality classroom instruction within the parameters of ethical Christian principles.

The Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with two areas of emphasis: Production and Business and a specialization in entertainment and music business in the Masters of Business Administration (MBA).

After counsel with members of the Nashville music industry, Belmont pioneered a unique program in 1972 designed to prepare men and women for operational, administrative and technical positions within the music industry. In June of 2003, as one of the most successful music business programs in the U.S., the curriculum became a part of the newly created Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business named in honor of Mike Curb, Chairman and owner of Curb Records, Inc.

The program consists of three major areas: (1) general education core; (2) a business base, consisting of basic tool and core subjects; and (3) two music business emphasis specialization areas: Production and Business.

The College maintains highly credible status by constantly evaluating and implementing curricula that teach fundamental as well as cutting-edge management, marketing and technology skills. The full-time faculty and staff of music business professionals are complemented by adjunct instructors who are employed in the music and entertainment industries. Additionally, a Board of Advisors, consisting of music and entertainment industry executives, assists in setting the direction and goals of the College.

The placement of students in music and entertainment industries depends largely upon the students’ initiative through interning and finding ways to create a niche for him or herself. The music and entertainment industries are diverse and fragmented with virtually no employee recruitment programs and the university cannot, and does not, guarantee job placement. However, the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business' highly successful internship program and extension study programs in Los Angeles (CA), New York (NY), and Australia provide opportunities for students to gain experience and network locally, nationally and internationally. Frequently, internship (MBU 3000) and extension study experiences lead to full-time employment after graduation.

Progression Requirements

The following requirements apply to the students pursuing the Music Business concentration:

  1. Music Business majors must earn a minimum grade of “C” in all required Music Business courses.
