Belmont students have successfully competed for national awards for undergraduate and graduate study. These awards for students who have compiled outstanding academic records offer exceptional opportunities for international study or advanced study in an array of disciplines and professional areas.   • Bosch The Robert Bosch Foundation offers fellowships for young professionals with an earned master's degree to gain an understanding of contemporary Europe through professional experience, travel, and lectures. The Foundation also offers fellowhips for US university graduates with German language proficiency to serve as English language tutors in Germany. Contact: Dr. Regine Schwarzmeier
  • British Marshall Scholarship These scholarships fund two years of graduate study in the United Kingdom in a variety of disciplines. A gpa of 3.7 is required, and applicants must be under 26 years old. The application deadline is early October. Contact: Dr. Doug Bisson
  • Churchill Scholarship Winston Churchill Foundation Scholarships are awarded for one year of study at Churchill College, Cambridge. Acceptable fields include mathematics, biology, biochemistry, physical anthropology, computer speech and language processing, computer science, physics, chemistry and mathematical statistics. This scholarship is research oriented. Contact: Dr. Mike Pinter
  • Cooke Foundation The mission of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is to help young people of exceptional promis reach their full potential through education.  This foundation focuses in particular on scholarships for outstanding individuals with financial need.  Application deadlines are early March for graduate program scholarships worth up to $50,000 each to college seniors or recent graduates to attend graduate or professional programs.  Contact: Dr. Joseph Byrne
  • Ford Foundation Predoctoral Diversity Fellowships These fellowships will be awarded to individuals who have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level, show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers, and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.  Contact: Dr. Marcia McDonald
  • Freeman-Asia Award This award funds study in a variety of disciplines for undergraduates in East & Southeast Asia. Applicants must be eligible for need-based financial aid, and must be accepted into a country based study abroad program. Application deadlines are usually in the early fall.   • Fulbright Award Fulbright awards support study abroad world-wide for graduates and those early in their professional career. Application deadlines are in early fall. In recent years, Belmont students have received Fulbrights to France, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Romania. Contact: Dr. John H. E. Paine
  • Gilman Scholarships for Study Abroad The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad.  Such international study is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an incrasingly global economy and interdependent world.  Undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at universities are eligible to apply.  Students who apply for and receive the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad are now eligible to receive an additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Supplement from the Gilman Program for study of a critical need language.  Contact: Dr. Kathy Skinner
  • Lee Shiu Summer Institute This institute, held at Lingnan University each summer, brings together undergraduate business students from the U.S., Hong Kong, and mainland China for a month of study of international business and east-west issues. Contact: Dr. Howard Cochran
  • Lingnan University Visiting Tutors This one year, renewable, funded residency at Lingnan University in Hong Kong offers a Belmont graduate the opportunity to develop co-curricular programming to help Lingnan undergraduates enhance English language skills. Many Belmont students have benefitted from this opportunity to live in Asia and to build leadership skills in an international context. Contact: Dr. Ronnie Littlejohn
  • Mitchell Scholarship George Mitchell Scholarships fund one year of gradute study in a variety of disciplines at universities in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The application deadline is usually early October. Contact: Dr. Doug Bisson
  • Rhodes Scholarship This prestigous award provides all expenses for study for two years at Oxford University and is one of the highest awards for U.S. college graduates. Contact: Dr. D. Lee Warren
  • Rotary Scholarship Undergraduates and graduates are eligible for Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships, which fund one or multiple years of study worldwide in countries in which local Rotary clubs exist. Contact: Dr. Howard Cochran
  • Truman Scholarship Students interested in public service or government may obtain funding for the senior year of undergraduate study and graduate study through the Truman Scholarship fund. Students may be majors in any discipline. Contact: Dr. Vaughn May
  • Villers Fellowhip for Health Care Justice The candidate selected for this one year paid fellowship will work as a full-time policy analyst in Families USA's Health Policy Department.  Designed to provide the fellow with a national perspective on health care justice work, the fellowship will be based in the Families USA office in Washington, D.C. and will afford the the fellow the opportunity to learn about a range of health care justice issues.  The Villers Fellow's primary responsibilities involve conducting primary and secondary research on a range of health care issues along with writing and contributing to publications that are relevant to current health policy debates.  Contact: Dr. Lorraina Scholten
  • Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice The candidate selected for this one year paid fellowship will play an integral role in the work of Families USA's Minority Health Initiatives Department.  The fellow's primary responsibilities include assisting the organization of trainings for community leaders and journalists; drafting policy briefs, fact sheets, and other publications; and developing content for the minority health Web pages and monthly newsletter.  The fellow will learn how issues such as Medicare, Medicaid, efforts to achieve universal coverage, and minority health play a role in reducing racial and ethnic health disparities and imporving the health of communities of color.  Contact: Dr. Lorraina Scholten
