Dr. Jennie Carter Thomas
Professor of Management

Dr. Jennie Carter Thomas teaches both in the graduate and undergraduate schools within Belmont University's College of Business Administration. She holds a B.A. degree in English from George Peabody College, a M.S. degree in Counseling Psychology from Tennessee State University, and an Ed.D. in Administrative Leadership from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Thomas has had a dynamic career encompassing teaching in an impoverished Appalachian community, working in public policy, owning her own business, serving on boards of directors for both publicly-held and privately-held companies, and her current service at Belmont University.
As a member of the Amercian Psychology Association, the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society, and the Association of Business Education, Dr. Thomas makes significant contributions to her profession, Belmont University, and the community. She has served as the President of Belmont's Faculty Senate and has been a member for six years. Recently, she served on the Graduate Catalog and Curriculum Committee and the Capstone Committee for the university. In the Nashville community, she has been involved in Friends of Warner Parks, Friends of Cheekwood, and the Nashville Symphony. She presently serves on the Selection Committee and as an advisor for the Roan Scholars Program at East Tennessee University.
Her research interests include experiental learning in management education and the role of management skills in venture capital investing. In 2007, Dr. Thoms chaired a committee that developed and implemented the Undergraduate School of Busienss Admnistration senior capstone course (MGT 4015), which is a required course offering a "culminating experience for business majors, integrating various areas of their college experience." She developed the "Participant's Guide" for that cours and "Leadership Lessons for My Own Life" for the graduate Human Dimensions of Business course (MBA 6920).
