Assistant Professor of Finance
Dr. John Gonas
Dr. John Gonas is an Assistant Professor of Finance in the Undergraduate and Massey School of Business teaching Corporate Finance, Introduction to Investments, and Investment Management.

Prior to joining Belmont's faculty in 1998, I worked in the financial planning industry for eight years (most recently with J.C. Bradford, Inc. in Nashville) primarily in retail brokerage, investment consulting and fee-based asset management. During the 2000-2002 academic years, I went on leave from Belmont to pursue a doctorate in Finance at the University of Kentucky. My degree was conferred in the spring of 2005.

My teaching philosophy revolves around real life application of a subject matter. I enjoy helping students understand how much of the popular theory and empirical research applies to corporate financial decision making and investment management. Ultimately, it is my hope to facilitate a student's comprehension and appreciation of the relevance of the tools and processes used in financial planning and market analysis. I feel that I can do this at a school like Belmont because of its emphasis on pedagogy, teaching excellence, and empirical research.

Outside of the classroom I personally enjoy spending time with my wife and three young boys. Professionally, I strive to better myself through participating in research conferences and developing and publishing applied research that allows me to tie together my academic and corporate world experiences.
