Undergraduate Research
The Department of Biology believes that students learn best and most enthusiastically when they are actually engaged in investigating biological systems, whether viruses, bacteria, plants, animals, people, or ecosystems.
In early courses, our students are required to design and execute their own experiments. Later in the curriculum, students prepare research proposals, read primary scientific literature, carry out their own research projects, and present the results in the Belmont Undergraduate Research Symposium.
Many of our alumni have told us that this introduction to research provided excellent preparation for their graduate and professional school experiences.
